Job Description:
Position Summary:The Business Development Manager will serve
firm wide and will be assigned to specific practice groups to
provide strategic and tactical support to the groups' lawyers and
will collaborate with other members of the Business Development &
Marketing Team to ensure the execution of the groups' business
development plans and their alignment with firm wide
priorities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Serve as front-line manager for assigned practice groups and
teams on incoming projects and as project manager from conception
to follow-through to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Collaborate with attorneys to expand business development
efforts including contributing to the practice group plans and
assisting with the implementation and execution of such plans,
tracking initiatives and outcomes.
- Work with the lawyers to help identify and recommend targets
and expand existing client relationships.
- Manage the practice groups' RFP process and responses,
coordinating attorney teams and tracking outcomes.
- Compile transaction and case descriptions for use in proposals,
on the website and for deal sheets; track client permission to use
such descriptions.
- Manage the practice groups' pitches/presentations process,
preparing materials and tracking efforts.
- Coordinate the creation, development and assembly of practice
group collateral materials to support business development efforts,
while facilitating compliance and consistency of firm brand
guidelines.
- Work with Practice Group Leaders and Marketing Communications
team to identify and pursue profile raising opportunities in key
industry and and business publications through media relations and
advertising.
- Collaborate closely with the BD Coordinator to manage events
and sponsorships.
- Serve as the "face" of the firm at business and community
events as needed or requested.
- Assist with the creation, monitoring, and tracking of business
development budgets relative to areas of responsibility.
- Serve as project lead in the coordination of survey, ranking,
and directory responses.
- Attend and participate in specific practice group meetings and
retreats; report to each practice on their initiatives and
results.
- Gather intelligence on emerging market and industry trends to
provide attorneys with an understanding of the competitive
landscape and to position the practice group/firm for increased
effectiveness in winning new business.
- Facilitate the planning, implementation and follow-up of new
business and actively identify and support cross-servicing
activities between practice groups.
- Strategize with Practice Group Leaders and the Marketing
Technology Team regarding Practice Group technology
initiatives.
- Coach and prepare attorneys for presentations to clients and
prospective clients for new business.
- Work closely with Business Development & Marketing Coordinators
to provide coaching and mentoring.
- Manage the practice area descriptions/sections and respective
attorney bios on the firm's website.
- Work closely with Practice Management and the Integration
Manager to successfully integrate lateral attorneys in assigned
groups.
- Ability to travel to satellite offices when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Desired Skills:
- Bachelor's degree with a major in Marketing, Communications or
Business is a plus.
- Minimum 5 - 7 years of business development and marketing
experience, preferred; professional services experience a plus
- Law office or professional services experience preferred.
- Experience working with business and litigation attorneys
preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational
skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to work nights and weekends when necessary
- Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task
- Strong client service focus and ability to work effectively in
a team environment
- Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal
supervision
- Various physical activity may be required
