Job Title: Data Scientist - Power SystemsJob Description:
We are seeking a Data Scientist with deep expertise in power
systems to support utility operations, grid modernization
initiatives, and data-driven engineering efforts. The ideal
candidate combines strong data science skills with a solid
understanding of electric transmission and distribution systems,
enabling them to derive actionable insights that enhance
reliability, efficiency, and resiliency.Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement advanced analytics, machine learning, and
statistical models to solve complex problems in power system
operations, asset management, and grid planning.
- Analyze large volumes of operational and engineering data
(SCADA, AMI, outage, DER, GIS) to detect patterns, forecast
performance, and optimize system behavior.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams to
identify high-value use cases and deliver practical, data-driven
solutions.
- Leverage domain knowledge in power systems to inform data
feature engineering, model interpretation, and stakeholder
communication.
- Support the development of digital twins, grid simulations, and
predictive maintenance models.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable
analytics pipelines and cloud-based solutions.
- Present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences,
translating insights into business recommendations.
- Stay up to date on emerging technologies, tools, and trends in
utility analytics and the energy sector.Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems,
Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's or
Ph.D. preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied
research roles, with at least 3 years in a utility or power systems
context.
- Strong understanding of electric power systems, grid
operations, or utility engineering (e.g., load flow, protection,
reliability, DER integration).
- Proficiency in Python, R, or similar tools for data analysis
and modeling.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI,
Tableau, Plotly).
- Familiarity with SQL and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure,
AWS).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration
skills.Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with utility-specific datasets such as
SCADA, OMS, AMI, or GIS.
- Knowledge of utility industry standards, regulatory frameworks,
and planning practices.
- Familiarity with tools like PSS/E, CYME, OpenDSS, or
PSCAD.
- Exposure to real-time analytics, edge computing, or IoT in grid
