II Grant Title: n/a Job Description Summary / TWC Summary: The
Postal Clerk II is responsible for complex functions regarding
logistics for the mail, packages, and palletized merchandise
received by and shipped from the university following United States
Postal regulations. Essential Duties Summary:
- Daily operational functions include all duties related to
receiving mail and parcels at TSU. These duties include
logistics/receiving, scanning/tracking, inspecting merchandise for
damage, securing merchandise, and delivering to faculty, staff, and
students. Research and review purchase orders via Banner system to
identify the correct recipient/delivery destination; maintains
relationships with mail services vendors
- Reconciles express account (pay bills, match invoices to bills,
charge department); Pays/reconciles express/spoiled postage
accounts. Prepares cash deposit for spoiled postage refund.
Balances daily postage and is responsible for reconciliation of
postage used to report to meter report. Works with mail services
staff regarding complex mail industry changes and issues, including
procedures and equipment updates
- Maintains records of receipt, mailing dates, and other required
information according to university policies and procedures
- Responsible for care when utilizing University equipment,
including the following: postage meter machine, tracking scanner
system, golf carts, university vehicle, following all applicable
university safety procedures and policies; manages the
Postage-by-Meter Account and add funds; request checks to add funds
to the permit account
- Daily operational functions include collection and processing
of outgoing and inter-campus mail, including sorting, preparing
labels, applying correct postage, and dispatch according to postal
regulations
- Manages the dock, which includes professionally greeting
incoming customers, parking logistics at the dock, ensuring that
the dock is not blocked, and reporting parking problems to
appropriate personnel; Trains and handles hazardous material
according to university safety policies and procedures, including
alerting appropriate personnel of any issues
- Charging and reconciling postage charges to departments, and
reconciling charges against meter mail; matches charges against
account activity report, completes journal
- Trains incoming staff and supervises student workers % FTE: 1.0
Hiring Range: $19.53-$24.90 Education: High School diploma or
G.E.D. or equivalent education. Required Licensing/Certification:
None required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the United States Postal Service, and of the
various classes of mail
- Knowledge of commonly used procedures in shipping and receiving
parcels and mail
- Knowledge of the technology used in a mailroom environment
- Knowledge of the appropriate safety protocols in a mailroom
environment
- Knowledge of the principals of supervising staff

Experience: Five (5) years of government postal clerk experience,
operating postage meter machines, including customer service, and
mail processing. Working/Environmental Conditions:
- Working conditions involves some exposure to moderate risk of
accident and require following basic safety precautions.
- Physical demands include moderate physical activity that
includes prolonged standing and/or walking, handling moderate
weight objects that include packages, sacks, trays, and tubs of
mail up to 50 pounds. and/or using or carrying equipment.
- Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel frequently. UA EEO
